The PSP is a great handheld gaming machine capable of a lot more than just playing games but lets face it thats the reason you brought it to play games on.
The graphics engine on the PSP is quite amazing playing games with almost the same quality and speed of its big brother the PS2.
Its sleek to look at and feels great to hold and play.
Can you tell I actually quite like the PSP.
Now how do you play games, well all officially licensed games come on a portable storage device known as the UMD (universal media disc) but it is possible to play games from the memory stick, games are downloaded on to a PC and then transferred to the memory stick via a card reader or the mini USB cable.
Well you might be thinking by now, great I'm of to download some games put them on my memory stick and play them on my PSP.
Unfortunately its not quite as easy as that.
With each and every firmware version Sony releases they update their security as well as add new features.
What this means to you and me is that if you have an updated firmware version you will not be able to play downloaded games but fear not because it is possible to downgrade your PSP firmware version.
If you have a firmware version above 1.
50 you will not be able to play downloaded games.
so how do you know what firmware version you have, Easy.
Switch on your psp and find your way to the main menu, select settings then system settings and go to system information.
That will then show you system software version, a series of numbers that could range from 1.
0 up to 3.
75.
That is your firmware version.
Just a quick note, downgrading your PSP is perfectly legal, its your PSP after all you can do what you like with it.
It doesn't matter what firmware version you are using and you can always upgrade it again if you choose to.
The only way to downgrade is you use one of the available downgrading programs now these can be found around the internet.
Just do a search on Google and you will find plenty of sites offering a downgrading service.
Just make sure you trust the website as downloading a file or program from someone untrustworthy can end up very costly.
