How to Remove Stains From Automobile Leather
- 1). Wipe up as much of a liquid stain as possible with a clean, dry towel or rag. It's OK to press hard into the leather because it is less porous than upholstery and the stain shouldn't soak in further with pressure.
- 2). Use a dull butter knife or dull dish scraper to scrape as much of a solid stain off as you can from the surface of the leather. Be careful not to scratch, puncture or tear the leather during this step.
- 3). Apply leather cleaner that is labeled safe for automotive leather interiors. These sometimes are spray-on or gel-based. Apply or spray a small amount of cleaner on the stain and let it sit as long as the product directions indicate.
- 4). Scrub a stubborn stain with a soft-bristled brush to loosen the substance. Apply leather cleaner again, and work it into the stain with a foam applicator or the one provided with the cleaner.
- 5). Wipe leftover cleaner and residue away with a clean, dry towel or rag. Don't rinse with water, just wipe down carefully and well. Allow leather to dry, at least 30 minutes.
