How to Crochet Lock Braids

    • 1). Part a ½-inch-wide section of hair, with a comb, from the hairline to the nape of the neck. Secure the rest of the hair with a hair band.

    • 2). Braid the loose section of hair into a cornrow from the front of the head to the nape of the neck. Fold the tail of the cornrow up to the nape of the neck and wrap a rubber band around it.

    • 3). Remove a braided extension from the packet and fold it in half. Hold the braid just under the loop of the fold. Hold the crochet pin in the other hand.

    • 4). Slide the crochet pin under the front section of the cornrow close to the hairline. Place the loop of the folded extension onto the hook of the crochet pin.

    • 5). Pull the loop under the cornrow and out to the other side with the crochet pin. Keep the loop on the pin.

    • 6). Hold the strands of the folded braid extension in the other hand. Reach over the cornrow with the head of the crochet pin and hook the strands of the braid extension. Pull the strands through the loop and pull tight to secure the extension to the cornrow.

    • 7). Take a strand of the extension in each hand and tie two knots to keep the braid in place. Repeat step 3 to step 6 to add more braid extensions down the length of the cornrow to the nape of the neck.

    • 8). Create more cornrows and repeat the crochet lock process to add the braid extensions.
