How to Reach Second Story Peaks to Paint a House's Exterior
- 1). Extend the ladder and lock all braces and joint in place so it won't move. Lean the top of the ladder against the house and set the bottom a quarter of the ladder's height away from the house. The ladder needs to be 3 feet taller than the point where you are resting it. Don't lean the ladder on a gutter, which is an unstable surface.
- 2). Adjust the levels on the ladder's legs so the ladder is perfectly even and stable.
- 3). Climb the ladder to bring your painting supplies to the top. Make as many trips as necessary. Have an assistant hold the ladder while you work.
