How to Restore the Acrylic Paint of an IKEA Table
- 1). Remove any hardware from your IKEA table, but leave the legs on, as it will be easier to paint this way.
- 2). Sand the table thoroughly to give the primer something to hold onto.
- 3). Go over the table with a tack cloth to remove the small pieces of debris left over from sanding.
- 4). Paint one layer of primer over the table with a foam roller. Use a regular brush for the legs and tight spaces.
- 5). Allow the primer to dry for an hour and then apply a second coat. Leave the table to dry overnight.
- 6). Apply the first coat of acrylic paint, using either a foam roller or a 2 inch brush. The foam roller takes less time but you may not get as smooth of a texture.
- 7). Allow the paint to dry for one hour and then apply a second coat.
- 8). Open your Polycrylic finish and carefully stir it with a paint stick.
- 9). Apply the Polycrylic finish to the table with the stain brush. Try to paint up and down or side to side, as your brush strokes may show a little.
- 10
Allow the Polycrylic to dry overnight and then very lightly run your sandpaper over the top of the table. - 11
Apply a second coat of Polycrylic.
