How to Restore Vista When it Says Operating System Not Found
- 1). Insert your Windows Vista installation disc. Restart the computer.
- 2). Press the key required to enter your BIOS. Most computers display a screen immediately after starting the computer that shows a "Press (X) to access BIOS setup." Press the key indicated on your screen.
- 3). Navigate to the Advanced Boot Options, and set your computer to boot first from CD and second from the hard disk.
- 4). Save and exit the BIOS.
- 5). Press any key to access the Windows Vista installation disc.
- 6). Choose your language, and press the "Next' button.
- 7). Click on "Repair your computer."
- 8). Select your Windows Vista operating system, then click "Next."
- 9). Select "Startup Repair," and then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the repair process. Restart your computer when prompted. Do not boot the Windows Vista installation disc, and attempt to access Windows Vista on your hard disk again.

Click "Start" and type "update" in the "Start Search" text field if you are able to boot into Windows. Click on "Windows Update," and then click on the "Optional Update" link. - 11
Select the updated driver for the "NVidia nForce 430/410 (or MCP 51) Southbridge chipset" if applicable, and then click "OK." Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the driver update. - 12
Return to the System Recovery options menu by following steps 5-8. Select "Command Prompt." - 13
Type the following information to rebuild your Boot Configuration Data. Press the "Enter" key after typing each line.
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
