    Reusable Packaging

    • Reusable packaging allows you to increase your marketing output, according to Packaging Digest. Not only does reusable packaging sell a product, but it markets to the customer with each repeated use, increasing your product's visibility.

The Packaging Digest website gives the example of POM tea, which uses drinking glasses to package and promote its pomegranate tea flavor. After the user of the product drinks the tea, he keeps the glass, so he sees the POM tea logo every time he opens his cupboard.

    Natural Inspiration

    • Packaging Digest also recommends looking at nature's packaging systems for inspiration. For example, seeds are packed in orange fruit to encourage animals to eat the fruit and aid in spreading the seeds. Hershey's Kisses use this "orange fruit" kind of packaging: consumers peel off the silver wrapping and eat the chocolate inside to reach the Hershey's marketing paper. Tootsie Roll pops use the same kind of packaging with its lollipops to increase sales of Tootsie Rolls.

    Outside the Box

    • Although the box and bag represent the average packaging product, your packaging can help market to your target audience. For example, to package a beverage that it appeals to an audience that enjoys action movies, military paraphernalia and combat video games, why not put it in a camouflaged can or in a can that looks like a grenade.

Another way to think outside of the box uses beginning with the product concept rather than the target market. For example, Banana Guard, which protects bananas from aging, created a package that looks like a banana. Additionally, the fruit guards look like apples.
