    • 1). Hold the vial of dye from the dye-test kit with the rubber cap facing up. Insert the needle from the syringe that is included with the kit into the rubber cap.

    • 2). Turn the vial upside down. Pull the syringe's plunger back to fill the syringe with dye. Turn the vial right side up. Remove the needle from the vial.

    • 3). Run the water in the bathtub or shower. Place the needle of the syringe against an inside edge of the bathtub or the shower stall.

    • 4). Press in on the plunger to dispense dye through the needle. Run the needle around the inside edges of the bathtub or the shower stall as you continue to press in on the syringe's plunger.

    • 5). Place the syringe away for later use. Let the water continue to run for five minutes before turning it off.

    • 6). Look for the dye seeping out from the bathtub or shower stall--the presence of the dye indicates that this is where the leak is.

    • 7). Mop up the leaking water once you have discovered where the leak is.
