Side Effects of Amphetamine Salts
- Adderall is available in 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, 15mg, 20mg and 30mg tablets. It is also available in a controlled-release version that is in a capsule. Higher dosages are linked to an increased risk of developing side effects.
- Adderall may increase the effects of certain antidepressants, including SSRIs, which can lead to an increase in certain side effects, including hypertension and insomnia. It may also decrease the effectiveness of blood pressure medications.
- Adderall should not be taken if a history of cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma or sensitivity to stimulants is present. This may lead to serious and potentially fatal side effects, including cardiac arrest, renal failure, hyperventilation and circulatory collapse.
- Common side effects include dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, insomnia, euphoria, hypertension and headaches. Serious, but rare, side effects include stroke, seizure and development of a skin rash.
- Adderall has a high risk of abuse and dependence. Long-term use of amphetamines may lead to the development of cardiovascular problems, excessive weight loss, depression and panic attacks.
