How to Photograph a Black Shirt
- 1). Load a 35mm camera with daylight film, or you can use a digital camera with a media card. Advance the film to the first exposure.
- 2). Add a polarizing filter to the front of your camera (if shooting in direct sunlight) and adjust the filter until you subject is revealed in full light. Take your light measurement with a through-the-ens reading. If you are using a digital camera, be aware that not every unit will take a polarizing filter.
- 3). Make the picture at normal exposure and then adjust the shutter speed to the next fastest and slowing setting and shoot a picture at each setting. You will have three exposures in total. A digital camera can be adjusted by opening up the camera menu and locating the exposure setting and then making a +1.0 and a -1.0 adjustment.
- 1). Set your camera on a tripod and place another strobe light nearby on top of a light stand.
- 2). Aim the light, so it bounces off a reflective surface in the direction of the person who is wearing a black shirt.
- 3). Point your flash unit away from the picture, but be sure you set the flash, so it activates, when the picture is shot.
- 4). Shoot the picture. The flash from your camera should activate the strobe, which will fill the picture with side lighting.
