Internet Marketing Tips - Traffic Generation 101

103 10
Okay, I get a lot of complaints from people who tell me things like, "I can't get a lot of traffic to my site" and then expect me to hand them a magic wand that is going to produce thousands of visitors overnight.
If it was that easy, we'd all be millionaires.
So I guess it's time for some traffic generation 101 so that you understand the crux of this problem...
and yes, it IS a problem.
No magic wand, no quick cure.
Just a lot of hard work.
This article will try to put it into perspective for you.
The first thing you need to understand is that any form of traffic generation is only going to reach so many people.
For example, if you use article marketing to try to get people to your site, you're only going to get people who read articles.
If you use pay per click, you're only going to attract people who use search engines and look at the right hand side of the results where the paid ads are.
No one method of traffic generation is going to reach everybody.
Even Google only reaches 50% of the Internet population.
The second thing you need to understand is that some methods of generating traffic are right away and some take a while.
For example, pay per click would give you traffic right away.
Prospects see the ads and click on them.
It's instantaneous.
But something like SEO would take a while.
Getting your site up- the ranks of the search engines doesn't happen overnight.
This is a gradual thing that happens over time.
You also have to realize that some forms of traffic generation are one shot deals.
For example, if you run a solo ad to an ezine, that's a one shot thing.
You'll get a large burst of traffic to your site, but it won't last over time.
Prospects will see your solo ad, go to your site and that may be the last time you see them.
Plus, you really can't send these people another solo ad because if they weren't interested the first time, there's little chance they'll be interested the second time.
Because of all these factors, and so many that I haven't even covered, you need to use many sources of generating traffic because one source is only going to bring you so much of it.
Diversification...
that's the key to success.
