How to Paint a Simple Dandelion
- 1). Use a small round detail brush to paint a yellow dot on a canvas. From the dot, paint several thin yellow, slightly downward curved lines about an inch long coming out to the left, right and middle of the dot. Paint five or six short yellow flicks going upward from the dot about a quarter of an inch high.
- 2). Paint a slightly curved, bright green stem, about 3 inches long, coming down from the bottom of the yellow dandelion flower still using the small round detail brush. Paint one leaf on each side of the stem. To paint leaves, start at the base of the stem and paint an upward diagonal feather-shaped leaf with a jagged edge. The jagged edge should have deep quarter-inch, slightly concave spikes. Fill in the leaf completely green.
. - 3). Paint green flicks of grass in a horizontal line meeting the base of the dandelion stem. Do this by painting half-inch upward lines, lifting as you paint them so that the grass lines end in a point
- 1). Dip a rounded art sponge in white paint. Tempera palettes will require you to dip the sponge in water first and then rotate the sponge in paint. Once loaded with paint, dab the sponge to make a circular shape on a black or dark-colored background.
- 2). Use a small round detail brush to paint a 3-inch green line coming down from the white circle acting as a stem. Paint spiky feather-shaped leaves coming out either side of the base of the 3-inch line. Paint a horizontal grass line, using short green flicks, just below the stem.
- 3). Paint seeds being carried away in the wind above the white dandelion. To paint a floating seed, load the small round brush with brown paint and paint a vertical small oval shape. Paint a white straight line coming up from the oval. From that white line, paint three lines branching upward and outward. Each white line is shorter than a quarter inch. The seed will look like it's being carried by a small parachute with no canopy.
