Windows 2000 Startup Problems
- You can use the Last Known Good Configuration options to start Windows 2000 in the last saved setting that worked. To start your computer by using Last Known Good Configuration, first restart your computer. When you are asked to "Select the operating system to start," press "F8." In the "Windows Advanced Option Menu" that shows up, use the arrow keys to select "Last Known Good Configuration," and then press "Enter." Form the displayed list of operating systems installed on your computer, select "Microsoft Windows 2000," and then press ENTER. Windows 2000 now starts using the Last Known Good Configuration.
- If you are unable to start Windows 2000 using the last known good configuration, then try to start it in the safe mode. In Safe Mode, Windows 2000 uses stored setting that is sure to work unless there is some hardware problem. To start the computer, first restart your computer. When asked to "Select the operating system to start," press "F8." In the "Windows Advanced Option Menu" that shows up, use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode," and then press "Enter." Form the displayed list of operating systems installed on your computer, select "Microsoft Windows 2000," and then press ENTER. Windows 2000 now starts in the Safe Mode.
