Select a site that has good drainage and bright indirect light. Morning sun and afternoon shade is good or dappled shade will work too. Dig a hole about twice the size of the root ball. For vigorous healthy Black Mondo Grass amend your soil with organic matter and incorporate a slow release fertilizer. - 2

After you have planted the Black Mondo Grass, water it in well. Keep the soil moist until roots are established. Do not allow soil to dry out but do not keep it excessively wet. Once the Black Mondo Grass is established it is very low maintenance and only requires occasional watering. - 3
Black Mondo Grass is a slow spreader and will eventually form a beautiful glossy black mat. It usually takes about two years to fill a one quart container from seed. Do not cut Black Mondo Grass back as you would other types of Mondo Grass it will take a long time for it to recover. You should only cut out dead or ugly looking leaves. Black Mondo Grass is hardy in Zones 6 - 10 - 4
