How To LOOK Like An Athlete
Here is a funny story that happened to me at a commercial gym about 2 years ago.
I was there at 6:30 in the morning.
I was squatting.
Now, I am certainly not the biggest or strongest guy in the world.
But compared to most gym goes, sometimes I stick out.
In this case I was doing sets of five with 365 pounds.
Again, these are not world-beating numbers by any stretch of the imagination.
But back when I was 19 I weighed a whopping 137 pounds soaking wet and I was weak as a kitten.
So I am pretty happy with my progress.
Anyway, so it is early morning and I am squatting.
This guy watches me finish my set, walks up to me and says...
So are you a professional athlete? I just finished my set, I'm gasping for air.
He continues: I mean, do you play football or something? I told him, no I am not a pro athlete and I do not play football.
He continues: It is just that I have never seen anybody go that deep on their squats with that much weight before.
I thanked him for the compliment, we chatted for a few minutes about the gym (they had just put in some new equipment.
) Then he left and I went back to squatting.
But the conversation stuck with me.
Because it made me realize you do NOT have get super strong or super ripped to stick out.
If you can just achieve some basic strength levels - like squatting double your body weight - you will appear almost superhuman to the average person on the street.
And that is the great thing about "old school" training.
It delivers the results.
While the rest of the gym crowd looks exactly the same week after week, month after month, and year after year - you can literally transform your entire physique and make people notice you in just a few short months.
So if you are tired of spinning your wheels with modern training methods and modern machines, maybe it is time you turned back the clock and started training like the old time trainers.
