General Guide for a Water Fountain

    • You have huge variety in building a water fountain. You can construct it from leftover plant pots, marble spheres over which the fountain bubbles water, metal structures, or stones. The fountain can be multi-tiered and involve twists and turns. As a beginning point, your water fountain requires a basic vessel for holding the water pump and tubing for delivering the water from the pump to the fountain itself. You also need an additional vessel for collecting the water that falls from the fountain, which the water pump reuses. Do not forget to locate mesh to prevent clogging around the pump.

    Basic Steps and Considerations

    • The size of your water pump greatly affects the height of your water fountain. Test your water pump by purchasing additional tubing and testing how well the pump forces water out of the tube, which you have extended vertically. This is the water pump's "gallon per hour capacity." After the determination, construct your fountain from the material you selected. In a similar vein, make sure that the vessel that holds the water for the pump to deliver to the fountain is large enough to hold the requisite water for your water pump. The only other crucial basic step is creating an adequate hole to attach the water pump to. Make sure that this hole is sealed so that no water leaks from it.

    Additional Tips

    • Water fountains can create a lot of sound. If you have sensitive neighbors or neighbors who are close, less than 50 feet away, do not create a water fountain that is beyond a few inches tall. Consider purchasing a solar-powered pump. It is better for the environment and it eliminates your need to extend unattractive electrical wiring from an outlet to your fountain.
