The camera comes housed in a rigid black plastic chassis with silver and white accents. It's mounted on a Y-shaped stand that allows the camera to rotate up and down to better frame the subject on video. A Windows Live Call Button is located on the top of the camera. A pair of microphones can be found to the right and the left of the camera's lens, allowing you to record stereo sound.

    Imaging

    • The LifeCam VX-1000 can take both videos and photographs at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. When recording video, the LifeCam VX-1000 captures images at up to 30 frames per second. You can also swap photographs in real time when chatting in Microsoft Windows Live during a video call.

    Expansion and Connectivity

    • The LifeCam VX-1000 connects to a computer via a four-pin Type A USB connection. Microsoft sells the camera bundled with a 6-foot USB cable. The camera is bus-powered, meaning it doesn't require an additional power cord, drawing its power instead from a computer's USB port. The LifeCam VX-1000 doesn't have a microphone jack for connecting an external microphone to the camera. It comes bundled with a software and drivers disk.

    System Requirements

    • The LifeCam VX-1000 is compatible only with Microsoft's Windows family of operating systems.
