Natural Remedies for Muscle Aches Part Two

An achy body can be such a pain - muscle strain, a tight, sore neck, leg cramps. Most minor muscle aches seem to loosen up when treated to a massage or hot bath. Try some of the following remedies to help ease your aches and pains.

Leg cramps can be cause by a variety of nutritional deficiencies: magnesium, potassium, vitamin E, calcium or protein. Eat lots of greens, cut down on fatty meats, sugar and white flour. You should see a difference in the leg cramps after a week.

Anyone taking a diuretic may be losing too much potassium from their system, which can cause leg cramps. Eat a banana or two every day. It might be possible to stop taking a chemical diuretic and find a natural one, like cucumber, celery or lettuce.

Tonic water contains quinine, which may help you. Drink a glass.

My husband occasionally suffers from leg cramps at night. Keep a piece of silverware on your night stand. A spoon works quite well. When you wake up with a cramp, place the spoon on the painful area and the muscle should uncramp.

Try a tincture of Cramp bark - it is good for any sort of cramping. Take one to two teaspoons, 3 to 5 times a day.

Another remedy for night cramps is this combination - 1 tablespoon of calcium lactate, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of honey in half a glass of warm water. This should relieve the cramps within 20 minutes.

Take 2 teaspoons of honey at each meal, or honey combines with 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before each meal.

An exercise to improve blood circulation and help prevent muscle cramps: Before you get out of bed, turn yourself around so you can put your feet against the wall, higher than your body, staying in that position for 10 minutes. Repeat this exercise before you go to sleep.

Vitamin E is reported to be helpful in relieving cramps in the legs. Take it before each meal. You should feel a positive difference within a week or two.

A rocking chair can be used as therapy. Rock whenever you watch TV, and for about an hour before bedtime. Rocking may prevent varicose veins and blood clots, improve circulation and relieve leg cramps.

Each day, drink 1 cup of red raspberry leaf tea in the morning and one at night to relieve leg cramps.

One doctor recommends vitamin B6. After three weeks of prescribing B6 to patients suffering from leg cramps, they were no longer bothered by them. The vitamin also took care of numb and tingling toes. Take 100 to 200 mg of B6 along with a B complex supplement.

An acupressure technique might work well for you. The instant you feel a cramp, use your thumb and index finger to pinch the skin between your upper lip and your nose (this area is called your philtrum). Pinch for about 20 seconds and your cramp should disappear.

Drink an 8 ounce glass of water before bedtime.

Runners suggest that you take a cold water walk before going to bed. Walk in about 6 inches of cold water in your bathtub for three minutes.
