How to Remove a Vanity Mirror
- 1). Locate a helper to assist you with removing your vanity mirror. Any mirror that is over three feet long is heavy, and it is not safe to handle alone.
- 2). Use your screwdriver to loosen the clip screws at the top of your mirror. While you are loosening the screws, ask your helper to use both hands to keep your mirror from falling forward.
- 3). Step to one end of your mirror; place one hand at the bottom, and one hand at the top of your mirror. Ask your helper to do the same thing at the other end of your mirror.
- 4). Lift up the bottom of your mirror until it is past the bottom mirror clips. Pull out on the bottom of your mirror, and let the top slide down to clear the top mirror clips. Keep a tight grip on your mirror, and pull it away from your wall.
- 1). Tape the entire surface of your vanity mirror with wide masking tape, and cover your vanity with drop cloths. Put on your safety goggles and leather gloves. There is a chance that your mirror will shatter during removal.
- 2). Slide shims in behind your mirror along the edges, and across the top as far as they will go.
- 3). Set your heat gun on a medium setting and begin heating the edges of your mirror. As the glue softens from the heat, you will be able to push your shims in farther behind the mirror. Ask a helper to assist you with inserting shims and keeping your mirror steady while you are working to remove it.
- 4). Wrap the end of your flat bar with two short strips of tape. Continue heating the edges of your mirror, and use your flat bar to gently pry it out. As the glue gets softer, your mirror will come away from your wall. As your mirror moves farther out, stack shims together to shove behind it. This will keep your mirror from suctioning back to your wall.
- 5). Continue heating the glue and prying out your mirror to remove it from your wall. It is possible that there is also glue across the center of your mirror. If this is the case you will have to also heat those areas to remove your mirror.
