    • 1). Put your Windows XP CD into your central file-sharing computer. Copy the contents of the "i386" folder on the Windows XP CD to a folder in the C:\ directory on your computer (for example, into a new folder you create under "C:\i386_share").

    • 2). Right-click on the folder, click "Sharing and Security" and then click "Share this folder on the network." Click the "OK" button once you are finished.

    • 3). Go to the computer you wish to install Windows XP on. Log in to the computer, click "Start," click "Run," type "cmd" (without quotes) and then click the "OK" button.

    • 4). Type "net use x: \\server_name\i386_share" (without quotes) into the command prompt and press "Enter," where "server_name" is the name of the computer that is sharing the "i386_share" folder.

    • 5). Type "X:\i386_share\winnt" (without quotes), press the "Enter" key, type "X:\i386_share" (without quotes) and press the "Enter" key.

    • 6). Press the "Enter" key and then press the "F8" key to enter the pre-installation setup.

    • 7). Choose the drive you want to install Windows on and press the "Enter" key. Select the partition size you wish to use, press "Enter," choose the "Quick Format" option and press Enter a final time. Windows XP is installed over the network onto your computer.
