    • 1). Boil 1 qt. water. Allow the water to cool so it is hot but not scalding. Pour the water into the bathroom drain you are cleaning.

    • 2). Wait for the hot water to drain completely. Pour 1 cup baking soda into the drain.

    • 3). Pour 1 cup vinegar into the drain. Immediately cover or plug the drain so the foam from the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar goes down into the pipe instead of backing up into the bathtub or sink.

    • 4). Boil another quart of water and let it cool so it isn't scalding. When it has been at least 15 minutes since you covered the drain, uncover it and pour in the hot water.

    • 5). Mix 1/2 cup salt and 4 qt. hot water. Use this mixture to clean the drain at least once a month. Use the baking soda and vinegar cleansing only when the drain seems slow or clogged.
