• When you purchase your own domain name for use with your blog, you can expand branding because you no longer rely on Blogger's domains. You can give out your URL to anyone and it is instantly recognizable as a unique name. Furthermore, a domain name that includes your individual or organization name is easier for others to locate. Custom Domains

• Google offers the ability to purchase a custom domain via two methods. The first relies on a Google app and Google's Checkout service to allow you to search for and buy a domain name. You can click on the "Custom" domain link from the "Publishing" tab in your blogger Dashboard. As of the time of publication, Google charges a flat $10 per year rate for registering your custom domain. Google will offer the option to automatically re-register your domain every year when you sign up for a new URL. Existing Domains

• If you wish to register your domain with a different registrar, you can do so with your blog. Registars such as GoDaddy often have discounts or coupons and you may prefer saving money over Blogger's automated "Custom Domain" process. In addition, if you own hosting, you can create other pages located on your domain and link to them from your blog. After purchasing your name, you must log in to the control panel for your domain and navigate to the area that allows you to change the values CNAME and ANAME of your domain so that you can redirect your domain to your blog.
  
  

Considerations

• Note that once you purchase a domain name and associate it with your blog, it make take up to three days for your blog to appear at that location. This is due to the process known as propagation, in which Internet service providers are notified of the new location of your blog and add the information to their cache. Because of propagation, some visitors may see your blog as its new location before others. Furthermore, once you purchase a domain, your Blogspot URL redirect to the new location but you should notify any websites that link to you of your new location. You may notice a temporary decrease in search engine rankings once you move to a new URL or domain.
