    • 2). Select the layer on the Layers palette that contains the image that you would like to use to make a pattern.

    • 3). Choose "Pattern Maker" from the Filter menu to open the Pattern Maker window.

    • 4). Select the Rectangular Marquee tool from the top left side of the Pattern Maker window. Click and drag to select the specific area in the image that you want to use to create the pattern.

    • 5). Set the "Width" and "Height" settings in the "Tile Generation" section on the right side of the Pattern Maker window to reflect the size each tile will be in the finished pattern.

    • 6). Finish setting the remaining "Tile Generation" options. If you want the pattern tiles to offset from each other, use the "Offset" drop-down list and amount text box. Set the smoothness and simple detail with the remaining drop-down lists.

    • 7). Click the "Generate" button near the top right of the Pattern Maker window to generate the pattern in the preview window. Change the options in the "Tile Generation" section and click "Generate Again" to randomize the pattern or click the "OK" button to close the window and create the pattern.
