How to Wire an Aftermarket Stereo Into a 1997 Dodge Intrepid
- 1). Lift the Intrepid's hood and loosen the negative battery cable clamp with a wrench. Remove the cable from the battery terminal and set it aside.
- 2). Pry the trim panel that surrounds the stereo and climate controls away from the dashboard with a trim panel removal tool. Set the panel aside.
- 3). Remove the two bolt screws at either side of the stereo bracket with a 10 mm socket and drive. Slide the factory stereo from the dashboard stereo dock. Unplug the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the outlets on the back of the stock stereo.
- 4). Insert the faceplate adapter into the empty stereo mounting dock. Feed the stereo wiring and antenna cable through the back of the installation kit faceplate adapter. Plug the stereo connectors into the wiring harness adapter leads.
- 5). Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the outlets on the rear panel of the aftermarket stereo. Plug the antenna cable lead into the FM antenna outlet on the rear panel of the new stereo. Slide the new unit into the dock through the faceplate adapter. Replace the bolt screws at either side of the stereo bracket with the socket and drive.
- 6). Replace the trim panel around the stereo and climate controls. Press against the panel to snap it back into place on the dashboard.
- 7). Reconnect the negative battery cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the bolt on the cable's clamp with the wrench. Close the hood.
