How to Restore Bleached Travertine
- 1). Strip the sealer if your travertine is sealed, using sealer stripper. Test a bit of the stripper in an inconspicuous area to ensure it is compatible with the travertine. Paint on a thick coat of sealer stripper onto the area. Leave it to sit for about three minutes, then wipe it up with damp towels. Allow the area to dry.
- 2). Scrub the faded area with soapy water and a scrub brush to ensure that there are no contaminants that will interfere with the stain. Flush the area with fresh water and allow it to dry.
- 3). Wipe the masonry stain onto the area with a soft, lint-free cloth. Work in circular motions.
- 4). Blot the area while the stain is still wet with a dry sponge to achieve the mottled appearance of actual travertine and to blend and feather the outer edge. Allow the area to dry according to the stain manufacturer’s instructions.
- 5). Paint the area with fresh stone sealer if your travertine was previously sealed, using a paintbrush. Use the same type of sealer that was initially used.
