Those with one to four years of experience as film and television producers made $30,627 to $49,655 per year.

    • The motion picture and video industry was the biggest employer of producers and directors in May 2009, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, providing jobs to 23,490 at an average salary of $108,580 per year. Radio and television broadcasting was the second-largest employer of film producers, with 21,420 jobs and an average annual salary of $74,190. Cable and other subscription programming employed 6,380 producers and directors at an average salary of $86,680 per year.

    Comparison

    • The overall average salary for producers and directors is $86,870, according to May 2009 figures from the BLS. The lowest-paid 10 percent of producers and directors made $30,560 or less, equivalent to the lower end of the range for starting film producers. Film producers with five to nine years of experience make $44,033 to $71,564 per year, according to PayScale, while those with 20 years of experience or more earned $49,367 to $117,916.
