    • 1). Type a date in cell A1. For example, type 4/5/09.

    • 2). Type "=DATE(YEAR(A1), MONTH(A1), DAY(A1)", without the quotation marks, in cell B1.

    • 3). Add a "+" and a number after "(A1)" for the date unit you want to add to. For example, if you want to add five days to the example, then type ""=DATE(YEAR(A1), MONTH(A1), DAY(A1)+5". To add four years and three months, type "=DATE(YEAR(A1)+4, MONTH(A1)+3, DAY(A1)." Change this formula depending on what you want to add.

    • 4). Insert a "-" and a number after "(A1)" for the date unit you want to subtract from. For example, if you want to subtract five days from the example, type "=DATE(YEAR(A1), MONTH(A1), DAY(A1)-5". To subtract four years and three months, type ""=DATE(YEAR(A1)-4, MONTH(A1)-3, DAY(A1)." Change this formula depending on what you want to subtract.
