As long as I can remember Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays.
Outside of getting together with family and going to Church on Easter Sunday, my fondest memories are getting up early to see what the Easter Bunny had brought for us.
Most times it was chocolates or even silly putty on occasion however there was one thing that was always in our baskets and that was Peeps! For those that don't know, Peeps are those little marshmallows shaped like chicks and bunnies that are coated with colorful sugar and taste like you're in heaven.
These little guys were actually created way back in the 1940's and 1950's by a company called Rodda Candy Company, which eventually became part of the Just Born company in 1953.
The owners of Just Born were mainly interested in the jelly beans that Rodda produced but they ended up finding this little marshmallow treat made by Rodda as something they could expand on and make better.
Just Born saw a great market for these Peeps and decided to mass produce them (as they were originally made by hand) and eventually Just Born became the biggest marshmallow candy company in the entire world! Now ever year I look forward to these treats at Easter as it's a tradition in my home as much as it was when I was little.
The best part about Peeps is they're not just for Easter either.
You'll find Peeps for just about every holiday including Christmas Peeps, Halloween Peeps and Valentine's Day Heart Peeps.
You'll also find them in many different flavors like peppermint peeps, chocolate mousse peeps and the latest craze Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Peeps! It's to the point where these little yummy treats are in your local store year round.
And that's OK by me as they are simply the tastiest little snacks in the world I hope to enjoy them with my kids too for years to come.
