How to Draw Trumpet Flowers
- 1). Look at an image of a trumpet flower. Notice the long thin stem shape, the long trumpet shape of the body and the shape of petals fluting over the trumpet body.
- 2). Draw a pencil line on the paper as a guideline to position the flower. Curve the line slightly so the top of the flower will point down toward the left or right of the page, as trumpet flowers tend to be pendulous and not erect.
- 3). Sketch a small circle midway down the line. Draw a bigger oval at least 2 inches above the small circle, at the top end of the guideline.
- 4). Draw a long line down from the small circle and parallel to the guideline to create the narrow stem of the trumpet flower.
- 5). Create the trumpet body of the flower. Draw a curved line from the side edge of the circle up to the side edge of the oval. Repeat on the other side to complete the trumpet body shape. Make sure that the curved lines point in toward the flower.
- 6). Draw a small oval inside the big oval shape to serve as the center of the trumpet flower. Place it near to the bottom line of the big oval shape. Shade it in with your pencil to highlight the flower's center.
- 7). Draw the petals on your flower. Use the center oval as a starting point and draw five round or leaf-like petal shapes around it. Each petal should look slightly different as they are positioned around the flower. A petal should look as if slightly overlapping the other.
- 8). Refer to your image to fill in more line detail or to correct the positioning of your petals.
- 9). Erase any unwanted guidelines.
