How to Wire a Car Alarm
- 1). Turn off your car. Open the hood of the car. Place the alarm part on metal surface under the hood and make sure it faces down so it doesn't get wet.
- 2). Take the alarm's power wire and connect it to the car battery with a fuse (make sure you know the fuse size of your car, which can be found in the car's instruction manual). Drill a hole through the rubber in the firewall of the car that goes towards the glove box on the passenger side of the car. String the alarm's wire through the hole so it is in the glove box. Then, use the installation manual to see where you must place the shock sensor.
- 3). Decide where you are going to place the LED status indicator of the alarm. Drill a hole through the dashboard to this location and string the wire through it, securing it with the double-sided tape over the hole.
- 4). Remove the inside panel from you car door carefully with a wrench. Find the wires that are in charge of the car's power locks on the doors and connect the alarm's door-lock relay wires to the car's power lock wires. These wires will usually be the only ones extending to the power lock area. This will depend upon the type of alarm, so take notice of what instructions it says in the manual for this step. If your vehicle needs current sensing, it will be apparent in the manual and you will need to wire that at this time. If the directions are unclear in the manual, call the tech support of the alarm company.
- 5). Find the starter wire of your car and install any components that may disable starting the vehicle. This would involve the wire and a clip that came with the alarm system. The starter wire is a thick wire that goes from the battery to the steering column. Some alarms have this feature, while others do not.
- 6). Check all of the wires to make sure they are attached properly as stated in the manual, safely out of moistures way.
