    • 1). Open the lawn mower battery compartment. Loosen and remove the battery cables from the lawn mower battery. Lift the lawn mower battery out of the battery compartment and place it on the ground.

    • 2). Snip off the lawn mower's two battery terminal connectors, and strip the battery cable ends of 1/2 inch of insulation.

    • 3). Loosen the top bolts on one of the replacement automotive battery terminal connectors. Insert the red (positive) battery cable end into the opening that was created by loosening the bolts. Tighten the bolts until they hold the stripped part of the battery cable snugly.

    • 4). Loosen the top bolts on the other replacement automotive battery terminal connector. Insert the black (negative) battery cable end into the opening that was created by loosening the bolts. Tighten the bolts until they hold the stripped part of the battery cable snugly.

    • 5). Lift the automotive battery and place it into the lawn mower battery compartment. Loosen the retaining nut of the new connector on the red battery cable and place it over the positive battery post (which is marked "+" or "POS"). Tighten the retaining nut so that the connector holds the battery post snugly.

    • 6). Loosen the retaining nut of the new connector on the black battery cable and place it over the negative battery post (which is marked "-" or "NEG"). Tighten the retaining nut so that the connector holds the battery post snugly. Close the battery compartment.
