How Can I Unclog the Drain Line on a House Air Condtioning Unit Line?
- 1). Turn the air conditioner off and unplug it from the power supply. Locate the drain line below the condenser coil, near the drain pan.
- 2). Disconnect the drain line and connect the end of the drain line to a garden hose. Note that an attachment may be necessary to connect the line to the hose. Attachments are available at most hardware stores or home repair stores.
- 3). Place the end of the drain line on the outside of the house into a bucket and turn the water on to the hose. Allow the water to run through the hose. If the water does not run through the hose, turn off the hose and use a wet/dry vac to suction the blockage out of the drain line. Reconnect the hose and run water through the line. Turn off the water and disconnect the hose.
- 4). Pour a mixture of 1 cup bleach and 1 cup water down the drain line. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- 5). Reconnect the garden hose and rinse the drain line with water until the smell of bleach is no longer detected.
- 6). Remove the hose and attach the drain line to the air conditioner. Plug the unit back in to the power supply and turn the air conditioner on.
