It's very important to remember that it's not just you and your ex that have to deal with the decision to get a divorce and all the fallout it can create.
You and your ex may want to shelter your children from too much pain, but it could be hurting them in the future.
Make sure you do these 4 things with your kids and you'll make the bad situation of divorce less damaging in the long run.
  1. Both Of You Be Honest With The Intentions Of Divorce- It's important that you and your ex discuss what your intentions are, then tell the children together.
This will show that you are both owning up to the decision.
This will create an atmosphere where the children can have a more open and honest communication with you about the divorce.
  2. Don't Bad Mouth Each Other In The Presence Of The Kids- If you don't allow your kids to love you both unconditionally, then you will be creating problems for them in the future with their relationships.
  3. Remain Involved In Their Lives- This is especially important for the one that will live in a new location.
It's important for the children to know that you aren't rejecting them by any means, just moving away from the marriage.
    Remain involved.
  4. Let The Teachers Know The Situation- It's important to start monitoring the kids behavior at this point more than ever.
It's a good idea to let everyone involved in raising the kids the whole situation, and that means their day to day teachers.
