How Do I Get an AVI File to Play?
- 1). Find the AVI video file that you want to view with Windows Media Player. The location is usually in the "Video" library folder that you can access by pressing the "Start" button on the desktop screen.
- 2). Double-click the AVI file to open it. This should automatically launch Windows Media Player. If it doesn't, open Windows Media Player by double-clicking the program's icon on the desktop screen. Drag and drop the AVI file to the player. If the video still won't play, you will need to make Windows Media Player the default program for files with the ".avi" extension.
- 3). Press "Start" on the desktop screen and then click "Default Programs." Click "Set Your Default Programs."
- 4). Select "Windows Media Player" from the list under Programs.
- 5). Click "Choose Defaults for This Program."
- 6). Read through the list of file types and select "AVI" by clicking the check-box next to it. Click "OK." Windows Media Player should now open AVI files each time you click on them.
