How to Learn to Graph in Excel
- 1). Open Excel 2007 and select a workbook. Select the "Office" button and click "Open." Browse the computer for the workbook and select it. Click the "Open" button. The workbook opens.
- 2). Locate a segment of data that includes row headers and numerical data. Highlight this data. Transform this data into a graph by clicking the "Insert" tab on the ribbon. Select "Column." Excel displays all of the available column graphs. Move your cursor near the graphs. Notice the graph names are shown. Select the graph "3D Cluster Column." Excel generates a graph based on the graph data.
- 3). Click on the border around the graph. Your cursor is shaped like a thin "+" with arrows. Click on the border and drag the graph to a new location. Change the chart type by clicking the "Change Chart Type" button on the "Chart Tools" tab. This lets you change the chart as you determine which type best represents your data.
- 4). Click the "Chart Tools" tab and notice the three sub tabs. Click the "Design" tab. Use this tab to modify the graph style, layout, data selection, and data types. Click the "Layout" tab to modify the graph labels, axis, and backgrounds. Click the "Format" tab to adjust the shapes, styles, sizes, and chart arrangement.
