This well known Nilambur Teak Museum is in Kerala and located at Malappuram district. This Teak Museum is first of its type in whole of world and in India this is the only such museum. There are lots of historical and scientific treasures available regarding Teak. This museum was established in 1995 by one of the sub centers of KFRI (Kerala Forest Research Institute). Due to a number of historical significance, the museum was established in this place. In the year way back in 1840, first plantation of Teak was raised in this place.
This was done, so that the British can get steady supply of timber made of Teak.

Plenty of research information can be obtained from this museum and many tourists who are interested to gather information regarding Teak visit this place. You can see the Teak tree of 55 years old and study about the past information of this special kind of woods.

In addition to that, you will find various collections of three hundred different kinds of butterflies, insects and moths that are available in the teak plantation area. There is another department of the museum, which deals with various problems and disorders that happen in Teak and the insects and pests that can cause disease in the plantation.

There is also another special attraction of this place and that is the interesting paintings, which generally portray the tree felling operations. You can see few collections of photographs of the Teak plantation of different weather conditions. You can also see the pictures of various tools that were used for Teak plantations of different times and ages. There are also the sample pictures of Teak wood of different times.

You can also see the portraits of many people, who have contributed in many ways in the development of Teak wood. Some of the well known names among them are Chathu Menon H.V.Conolly, and T.F.Bourdillion etc.

Another interesting item is 800 meters natural bio source, which has been displayed in the museum. This natural trail goes through many shrubs, trees & bamboos. You can also find many different reptiles and birds over here.

If you want to visit Nilambur by train then you will find many trains passing through the Nilambur station. The museum is just three kilometers away from the railway station. You can buy bus tickets from the railway station to reach this remarkable museum. Nowadays, online bus booking facility is also provided by many travel agencies.

Karipur airport, which is also an international airport, is the nearest one. Malappuram is about 36 Kilo meter away from the airport. You can either hire a bus or taxi from the airport in order to reach to the museum.
