Obama Knows the True Meaning of "For the People"

The Conservatives are critical of the size of the budget deficit and level of spending just introduced by the Obama government (budget $3.
6 Trillion/deficit of $1.
75 Trillion).
Although the current economic situation evolved to a large degree during the Bush years, we never heard much Republican complaint about the enormously wasteful military spending under the Bush administration, massive profits to oil companies based on $145/bbl oil, artificially skyrocketing property prices based on faulty lending practices, massive overseas outsourcing of American jobs and the plight of tens of millions of Americans who are without health care or in danger of losing it.
For the first time we have a President in Mr.
Obama who is open, intelligent, compassionate and not afraid of making bold moves in order to create change that will have meaningful long term impact.
Obama's approach rankles the likes of Rush Limbaugh and the 9,000 other conservatives to whom the conservative guru recently delivered a C.

keynote.
These folks would like things to go back to just the way they were.
In retrospect, it would have been so easy a few years earlier, to take a Trillion dollars and allocate it equally among Health Care, Fundamental Research, Housing, Education and Energy Independence.
This single "Socialist" act could have injected $200 B into each of these categories with enormous benefit to the people and future of the nation.
What is more, it could have readily been afforded.
But, the Republicans would prefer to provide a "hand-up" not a hand-out".
The conservative viewpoint would have been that benefits and job creation are best made to trickle down by those most capable of putting the money to good use.
They would have rather given it to the very captains of industry and finance whose greed and lack of foresight have largely created this economic disaster.
It is both amusing and sad to watch the highly critical comments that are being directed toward the Obama administration.
But, the chickens have finally come home to roost.
The problems have been a long time building and will take a long time to solve.
While Mr.
Obama has no magic cure, he is delivering on his campaign promises.
His efforts to focus on health care reform, assisting honest folks to avoid mortgage foreclosure, developing alternative energy initiatives for long term economic and political benefit, improving education, all appear to be aimed at the greater and longer term good.
Yes it is costing money.
But, if a country is going to print "funny money" it might as well be spent in a way that benefits the greatest number of people having the greatest need.
That's not Socialism, it's just plain old fashioned common sense.
For the Republicans to cry out that tax payers are being asked for too much is hypocritical in the extreme.
Conservative elements in the U.
S.
would have us believe that if someone is in need, they didn't work hard enough or somehow don't exhibit the "right stuff" to succeed and realize the American Dream.
While that may be true in some cases, it is also true that "stuff" happens;most of which is not under the control of the working person.
Can we realistically blame the American worker for the millions of jobs sent overseas? Can we blame the autoworkers for the strategic mistakes of auto industry executives who couldn't or wouldn't take action to develop longer term strategies to deflect increasing competition; choosing rather to maintain the status quo? A daily listen to informs anyone of the extremely short term focus of most of corporate America and the investing public.
For the first time in years we have a leader in Obama who displays a degree of awareness, intelligence and fairness not seen for years.
Is it really so Socialistic to exhibit concerns about the needs of ordinary people? It is in fact smart policy and works well for those dependent on them to support a vibrant national economy.
It is the vast middle class that is the real backbone of the nation.
It is they on whom the nation depends to keep going the consumerism that is so vital to the U.
S.
economy.
Now is the time to change.
It's easy to criticize a new approach, but it is clear that many of the systems, institutions and habits of the past are now outmoded.
Solving this economic crisis is a gargantuan task that needs the unprecedented cooperation of all parties and a completely new and shared vision.
The current economic shock as with the 9/11 events is hitting a generation that has known nothing but the greatest of material prosperity, as artificially created as it may have been.
The national mentality is not one of unity and common cause.
There hasn't been enough suffering yet to eliminate partisan bickering and political divides.
Nevertheless, this is exactly what is required to move toward a new paradigm and a renewed golden age of prosperity, albeit with different emphasis.
Sad to say the knives may find their mark, but Obama will go down in history as being the first President in a long time that really does care about the people and if not for the people, of what does the nation consist?
