    • 1). Unwrap the fish and place it onto the cutting board. Cut the fish into smaller pieces for steaming, if you desire. Sprinkle fresh or dried herbs over the fish, using the amount you desire. Add salt and pepper, if you wish.

    • 2). Add water to the reservoir of the steamer before plugging it in, following manufacturer instructions. Assemble the steamer basket over the water reservoir. If the steamer has a special bowl for holding food items for steaming, place this into the basket. Place the prepared fish into the bowl and place the lid on the steamer basket.

    • 3). Plug in the unit and turn it on. Set the timer to about 15 to 20 minutes. As the fish steams, make sure sufficient water remains in the reservoir. If the water disappears before the fish finishes steaming, unplug the unit, add more water and plug it back in again.

    • 4). Test the temperature of the fish by inserting the probe into the flesh. When the temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit, the fish is finished cooking, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Transfer the fish to the serving plate with the tongs.
