How to Create Photo Galleries in Indesign
- 1). Open a blank document in InDesign. Choose an 11 x 17 spread under the Custom sizes setting when creating the document. This size is best for displays of large images and artwork.
- 2). Press "Control + D" for Windows, or "Command + D" for the Mac to import, also known as place, a graphic in the open InDesign page. Search for the art you wish to place in the page and press "OK." The art is now loaded in the cursor. Click on the page, and the full-size art should appear. Adjust the art so it is in the center of the page by clicking and dragging it.
- 3). If the art does not take up the entire page, click the T icon, for text box, and create a text box as large as the entire page. Double-click the left square of the two overlapping squares at the bottom of the tool bar. This action opens the colors window. Choose a color for the text box that works well as a neutral background color for the art, as though the text box were the wall on which the art is hanging. Select an appropriate color and press "OK." Drag the large text box over the page and place the art on top of the text box.
- 4). Continue Steps 2 and 3 until you have placed all of your artwork on individual pages and you're satisfied with their arrangement. Click "File," scroll down and select the "Export" button. Export the file as a .pdf, which allows you to display your art gallery on a projector or large monitor using another viewing program, such as Adobe Reader.
