How to Clean Bacteria Out of a Grease Trap
- 1). Pour a bottle of liquid grease bacteria additive down the drain. Alternatively, a powder additive can be added. Follow the package for directions on how much powder to add, based on the size of your grease trap.
- 2). Pour a gallon of room temperature water down the drain to help push or guide the bacteria additive farther into the drain. Do not use hot water. Hot water will cause the hardened grease to liquify.
- 3). Repeat the process every four weeks. The bacteria additive uses good bacteria to biologically break down and digest waste and bad bacteria. Once broken down, the waste is emitted in the form of carbon dioxide and water, which are safely released from the grease trap.
