Reviewing The Concept 2 Rowing Machine

In the early part of the 1980s, the Concept 2 rowing machines made their introduction to the world. The machines are manufactured and shipped from Vermont, and they produced this rower just because they were so aware of the need to train in the winter. That was the driving thought to come up with a means by which rowers would not have to wait for the temperatures to get warm to participate their sport. From the get-go, this company set out to take advantage of the best engineering and technology available in their rowing machines. The person writing this article, me of course, is a Concept 2 user, and I genuinely can tell you how content I am with their product. So I'll talk more about several important information in this review of Concept 2 rowing workout machines.

The options are pretty uncomplicated, you can buy the Model D or the Model E. But, the Model D rower can be purchased with separate options depending on your requirements. The performance monitors are referred to as, PM3 or PM4, and they are part of the package with each rower. The PM3 is a standard feature on the Model D rowing machine with a choice to upgrade to the PM4. The higher priced Model E always ships the PM4 with it as the primary monitor. You can expect to spend up to $350 more with the Model E rowing machine, and the Model D has two different prices for the upgrades.

The performance monitors, PM3 and PM4, are sleek designs that offer the most important metrics for monitoring your heart rate and rowing stats. The way you can do that with the pulse rate is with an additional unobtrusive sensor that you strap across your chest area. There is no discomfort having it strapped as it is very thin with a stretchable spandex strap. Once you start rowing your mind will not even notice the monitor is there. The info from the sensor is actually sent to the PM3 or PM4 for processing and display.

The only thing needed is the resistance to make you work while rowing, and that is attained with a flywheel on the front of the machine. The flywheel is held inside a plastic assembly so you cannot touch it while it is in motion. You will find a mechanical resistance adjustment for tougher or less challenging rowing. There are also no concerns with noise because the overall rowing machine is almost silent during rowing. The flywheel turns when you row, and it creates a soft air movement that is extremely quiet. However, I can say after many years of use that the flywheel movement does not create any distractions at all. Unless somebody in the other room is a really light sleeper, you will have no issues with waking up other people.

You can watch your rowing speed, plus other information, from the PM3 or PM4 monitors. There are enough data types to satisfy the needs of either competition level rowers or someone who wants a great workout. Your personal needs will tell you what you want to keep track of and what is not so essential. This mainly depends on whether you are rowing for general fitness, or if you participate in rowing contests and what level you take part in.
