How to Make Stone Trim Stick to a Counter
- 1). Measure the area where you need to install the stone trim piece with a tape measure. Transfer the measurement to the stone trim piece.
- 2). Cut the stone trim piece to length with a tile-cutting saw.
- 3). Apply a 1/4-inch layer of mortar to the back of the stone trim piece with a trowel and then place the stone trim piece in place.
- 4). Position a 1/4-inch shim under the trim piece to allow a mortar gap for the grout line. Allow two hours drying time before you remove the shim.
- 5). Fill a grout bag with mortar and then squeeze the grout into the gap created by the shim.
- 6). Radius the grout line with your finger and then remove excess grout with a wet rag.
