How to Make a Little Red Riding Hood Cape
- 1). Wrap the tape measure loosely around the neck of the cape wearer. Write down the number of inches and divide them by 3.14. This is the diameter of the neck measurement for the cape. Set it aside.
- 2). Place your red fabric in front of you so that it looks like a rectangle laying horizontally.
- 3). Attach a pin to a piece of string that is 5 feet long. Place the pin in the middle of one of the 12 foot sides, on the very edge of the fabric.
- 4). Draw a semi-circle on the fabric with chalk, using the pin and string as a giant compass. Your half-circle, when finished, will have a diameter of 12 feet and be 60 inches high.
- 5). Cut out the half-circle.
- 6). Take the diameter you measured in step one and divide it by two. This is the radius of the neck measurement. Cut a piece of string to this length and attach it to a pin as in Step 3.
- 7). Again, place the pin in the middle of the long, flat side of your fabric, just along the edge. As in Step 4, use the string and chalk as a compass to draw a half-circle on the fabric. This smaller semi-circle will be as wide as the diameter you measured and as tall as the radius. This will be the neck of the cape.
- 8). Pin the bottom or round part of the cape into a half-inch seam. Sew into place with a needle and thread or a sewing machine.
- 9). Cut two pieces of red ribbon 6 inches long. Pin the small half-circle of the neck of the cape down, making a half-inch seam. Insert each piece of ribbon inside of this hem, one inch inwards. Sew the hem and ribbon into place with a needle and thread or sewing machine.
