Real Flowers, Small Flowers

• A positive side effect of having children create their own corsage is that you can get them out of the house and into the fresh air to pick real flowers from a garden. They can use the real flowers to make a fresh and beautiful corsage. Parents can also take this opportunity to teach children about the different plants and flowers that are outside, so it can be a teaching tool as well. Small flowers such as buttercups, lilacs, orchids, and miniature versions of tulips and roses are best for children since they have small wrists.
  
  

Putting It Together

• In addition to flowers, you'll need super glue, ribbons, scissors and staples to make your homemade corsage for children. Glue the flowers to the middle of the ribbon after the ribbon is cut. Cut the ribbon to fit the wrist of the child. You may also need to use the stapler to make sure the flowers are securely attached to the ribbon. Hide the staples from view, however, so staple from the underside of the flower.
  
  

Color Coordinate

• Since corsages are typically worn to special occasions such as the school dance, debutante balls, birthday parties, and celebratory showers, the corsage should be fancy to match the color and style of the rest of the outfit. Color coordinate the colors of the flowers or the base ribbon of the corsage with the outfit. It doesn't have to be the exact same color, since that may be overwhelming, but the corsage can be filled with an accent color of the attire. For example, if a girl is wearing a pink dress that has yellow polka dots, the corsage could be yellow to match the accent color of the pink dress.
  
  

Ribbons & Rhinestones

• Really girlie girls should have a corsage that fits their personality, and no ordinary corsage will do. An adult supervising the construction of the corsage can help the child apply rhinestones and ribbons with either staples or super glue. This way, the child can make the rhinestone as sparkly or as colorful as she wishes to match the outfits she may wear it with.
