How to Install Brick Walls
- 1). Examine the area in which you plan to build the wall and make sure it is free from any physical impurities or obstacles that may impede the construction process. Dig a trench approximately 14 to 18 inches deep along where you plan to place the wall. Pour the concrete footing and make sure it is smooth and level enough to support the wall. Allow the concrete to dry and draw a chalk line to mark where the wall will be built.
- 2). Place a brick at the end of each side of the concrete base and determine the length of the wall according to how many bricks it will take to complete one row. Mark the length of each brick into the cement floor and be sure to leave approximately 1/4 inch between each brick to account for the mortar.
- 3). Place bricks down until you reach the other end of the wall. Use a level on both the top and sides of the bricks to make sure they are both straight and level. Apply mortar between each of the bricks to act as an adhesive. Use a joiner to remove any excess mortar and to ensure that the exterior has a polished finish. Cut a brick in half to begin and end every alternating level with a half brick to give added foundation to your wall.
- 4). Continue to lay bricks until you have reached the top level of your wall. Be sure to use your level every few rows to make sure that the wall remains level.
