    • 1). Shampoo and condition your hair in the shower. Use a straightening or smoothing shampoo and conditioner. These products leave deposits in your hair, weighing it down and preventing it from frizzing. Experiment with different kinds of shampoos and conditioners to find products that work for your hair.

    • 2). Pat your hair dry with a towel. Apply a leave-in straightening agent, a straightening balm or conditioner. These products leave an oil coating in your hair that prevent it from curling while it dries.

    • 3). Brush and blow-dry your hair. Point the blow-dryer down. This helps to close the cuticle layer and seal in moisture. Brush your hair with a large-barreled, boar-bristled hairbrush while blow-drying. Using the brush, straighten the hairs directly beneath the blow-dryer so that they will dry straight.

    • 4). Straighten your hair using a flat-iron. Flat-ironing your hair is a more effective straightening method than blow-drying.
