104 5

    Features

    • Anyone in real estate sales who has had a valid license for at least 24 months of the preceding five years can apply to become a real estate broker. This applies to licensed sales associates in Florida or any other state. Completion of a 72-hour pre-licensing course and 100-question exam is mandatory.

    Exceptions

    • College graduates with a four year real estate degree do not need to complete the 72-hour class, but do have to take the exam. Florida has a mutual recognition program with nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Omaha and Tennessee. Brokers in these states seeking a Florida license only need to complete a 40-question exam and are exempt from the 72-hour course.

    Application

    • As of August 2010, the Florida Real Estate Broker application fee is $115. Each applicant must supply proof of education, a valid social security number and submit to electronic fingerprinting.

    Consideration

    • Continuing education is necessary after receiving a Florida real estate broker's license. Anyone not in compliance with classes and fees may have his license rendered involuntarily inactive.
