    • 1). Clean the object well with soap and water. If the object is wood, such as a wooden drawer, wipe it with a damp cloth and sand it lightly with fine grit sandpaper. Wipe it down with a tack cloth to remove any sanding dust.

    • 2). Paint the surface with chalkboard paint. Although chalkboard paint comes in spray form, it's easier to use a brush dipped into a can to create a smooth surface and not get any overspray on the edges of your item. On an enamel bakeware pan you can paint the bottom of the pan, leaving the edges as the chalkboard's frame.

    • 3). Paint the frame of your chalkboard different colors with acrylic, latex or oil-based paint, for something such as a window or old mirror. Embellish a framed chalkboard by gluing beads, small kitchen utensils or other little items to the frame. Do not hang the chalkboard until the glue is dry.

    • 4). Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
