Honda

• Honda's line of DOT approved scooters include the Silverwing, Metropolitan, Rukus, Elite, PCX and the SH150i. Honda does not import to the United States scooters that are not DOT approved. The SH150i and Silverwing, with 153cc and 600cc, respectively, are the only Honda scooters approved for closed-access highway use.
  
  

Yamaha

• The Yamaha lineup of DOT-approved scooters include the T-Max, Zuma, C3 and the Vino Classic. The largest of these is the 499cc Z-max scooter, which is the only Yamaha scooter imported to the United States approved for use on interstate or closed-access highways. The Zuma, C3 and Vino Classic are approved for open-access surface roads.
  
  

Suzuki

• Suzuki offers only two scooter models in the United States (both of which are DOT approved for closed-access highway use): the Burgman 400cc and 650cc versions. No other scooter is imported into the United States by Suzuki.
  
  

Kymco

• Kymco imports more scooters into the United States than any other manufacturer. Currently, there are 18 Kymco scooter models (with seven available engine sizes) that are imported. Scooters that exceed 150cc are approved for closed-access highway use. These include the Xciting RI; People S 200 and 300; People GT 200 and 300; Movie S 150; Downtown 200, 300 and 300 ABS; New Dink 200i; and the Agility City 200i. All other models imported by Kymco are not approved for closed-access highway use, but are legal for use on surface roads.
  
  

Piaggio

• Piaggio offers seven scooters in the United States, all of which are approved for use on city streets by the Department of Transportation. Just one, the Fly 50 4V, is not approved for closed-access highway use. The remaining six, which are closed-highway approved, include the MP3 500, 400 and 250; the BV tourer 500 and 250; and the Fly 150.
