How to Clean Xylene Paint
- 1). Survey the area first and make sure there aren't any hazards nearby before you start cleaning up the paint spill.
- 2). Create a barrier around the spill with paper towels if you're cleaning up a spill on carpet. A barrier will prevent the paint from spreading through the fibers.
- 3). Clean up the spill as soon as possible using water, rags and paper towels. Cleaning up wet paint is far easier than cleaning paint that has already settled and began to dry.
- 4). Apply mineral spirits or paint thinner to the area, and wipe the area down with a rag.
- 5). Loosen any paint that already dried into the surface with a brush. Apply more paint thinner if needed. Take frequent breaks, and do not inhale too much paint thinner. Paint thinner can have a toxic effect upon the body.
- 6). Pick up the spill with a paper towel, and work in parts to successfully remove the stain or spill.
- 7). Ventilate the area to allow the fumes and the paint thinner to dry. Use a carpet cleaning agent to remove any leftover remnants that might not have reacted to the paint thinner.
